Colin Campbell Ferrie would become famous as the first mayor of Hamilton in 1847 but before that had assembled a chain of Ferrie stores headquartered in Hamilton with branches in Waterloo, Preston, Brantford, Dundas, and Nelson. He was instrumental in founding the Gore Bank in Hamilton and was its second president from 1839-1856. He had been a member of the Provincial Legislature of Upper Canada from 1836-1841.
