Recently a bench was placed in front of Kilbride Public School in the village of Kilbride. On October 2, 2021 it was finally dedicated to the memory of Marianne Schuett. On October 27, 1967 Marianne was abducted on Kilbride Street on her way home. The ensuing search was massive. The family and community as you can imagine, were utterly devasted. The search for her continues.
The community had always wanted to do something in Marianne’s memory, but it just didn’t come to pass and time went by. In 2019, through word of mouth and the assistance of the Kilbride History Group, fundraising was launched, and a memorial bench was purchased. Unfortunately, the pandemic held the dedication back. The City of Burlington kindly stored the bench.
On Saturday, October 2, 2021 family, friends and community members were able to finally come together to remember Marianne with the bench at the corner of Kilbride Street and Panton Street. Since the day of its placement, it has been well used as parents and grandparents wait for their children at the end of the school day.
Marianne will continue to be remembered and not forgotten in Kilbride.
